Job Title: Communications and Media Officer
Location: Cape Coast, Ghana (EJF office)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $15,000 - $20,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Position Overview:
We re seeking a dynamic Communications and Media Officer with strong copywriting and organizational skills, a knack for compelling storytelling, and the ability to secure media coverage. As the Ghana Communications and Media Officer for EJF, you ll collaborate closely with the Ghana Fisheries Programme Manager and our international communications team to design and implement impactful communications and media strategies for EJFs projects in Ghana.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan, develop, and execute agreed-upon communications strategies.
Collaborate with the UK-based communications team and graphic designer to create press releases, social media content, webpage material, and other communication outputs.
Identify and engage with target radio networks for radio programs and assist local communities in connecting with radio journalists.
Build a network of engaged journalists to secure significant media coverage for EJFs projects and enhance the quality of coverage of Ghanas fishing industry.
Respond to media inquiries and collaborate with colleagues to maximize coverage opportunities.
Coordinate journalist training workshops.
Organize press trips and generate related communication materials.
Promote project films and radio programs to national media outlets and local screening events.
Coordinate press conferences and trips, ensuring the smooth execution of special events, including those involving guest speakers and high-profile supporters.
Ensure all communication materials comply with donor branding requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Essential Skills and Attributes:

Strong news sense and the ability to convey complex messages to various audiences, including local fishing communities.
Ability to produce inspiring and fact-checked copy for print and online.
Degree or equivalent experience in communications, media, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
Experience working in a media/press team with a solid understanding of the media landscape in Ghana. Existing contacts are advantageous.
Proven track record of delivering projects with minimal supervision.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Tactful, friendly, and calm under pressure.
Confidence, resilience, tenacity, and a collaborative approach.
Passionate about environmental and human rights issues.
Desirable Skills:

Experience working in television or radio media, including camera operation and conducting recorded interviews.
Previous experience working on environmental or fisheries issues.
